Weekly Reflection 1
Week 1 and 2
Privacy:
This week we talked about privacy in schools and protecting student information. This was very interesting for me to learn about as I have not previously thought deeply on how we protect our students’ information. Learning about this has made me think about how I will use technology in my class and also how I will need to pay attention to privacy settings when dealing with my students’ information. When setting up my blog, my initial thought was just to accept all privacy issues and make it public. After learning about the topic in class I made sure that I read all aspects and tried to understand what I was agreeing to. In the future I am going to ensure I pay more attention to privacy settings and what data I am willing to share online. By understanding where and how the data is being used I hope to be better at what settings I choose to allow.
Open inquiry:
For my open inquiry project I decided to work on meal prepping. Last semester I was bad about making sure I had a meal not only for that night but for lunch and dinner the next day. I thought that making this my inquiry project would allow me to work on being prepared for my week. I am excited to try new recipes and modify some of my favourites to make good, healthy and fun meals.
This project also relates to education. Baking and cooking are great ways to incorporate real life connection into students’ work with math and fractions. It also helps them consider budgets and how to work with money. As well as being good for working on math, cooking relates closely to the physical and health education curriculum. In the physical and health education for the grade 4 curriculum, one competency is “Explain the relationship of healthy eating to overall health and well-being.” It is important that students take the time to learn about good eating habits and having well rounded diets to build healthy eating habits for the future.
