Week 3

Artificial intelligence:

This week we talked about artificial intelligence in the classroom. This is a very interesting topic that we have been discussing in many of our classes. I personally think that AI is around to stay and so we should embrace it. That said, there is a time and a place for it. AI is not going to leave and it will continue to develop and get better. We should, as teachers, ensure that we are teaching our students how to properly use AI. AI can be a great tool that can be used for students as a tool. Students can ask questions, create study guides and get help on homework. Unfortunately there are many ways that students can misuse AI and can be misled. 

Education on technology is a very important thing for students to be taught. This needs to be a topic covered in all elementary classrooms and students should be taught how and when we can use technology to benefit our education. One of the resources we covered had advice on how to teach students to use AI to make land acknowledgements. For me this takes away from the importance and understanding that is behind why we do land acknowledgements. Having AI write them is not something we should be teaching our students. We need to ensure that we teach students how to think critically and understand that there needs to be meaning behind some of our work, especially with the land acknowledgements, and that this cannot be replaced by technology.
